These are the terms for using Square One (playsquareone.com). They are written to be read. Using the app means you agree to them.
The service
Square One is a chess coaching app: coached games, lessons, puzzles, analysis of games you play or import, and improvement tracking. The free tier is genuinely usable; Premium adds deeper, personalized coaching. We work continuously on the product, which means features can change, improve, or occasionally be retired.
Your account
Keep your credentials to yourself and use one account per person. You are responsible for activity on your account. You can delete your account at any time from Settings, which removes your data as described in the Privacy Policy.
Subscriptions and billing
Premium is billed through Stripe, monthly or annually, with pricing shown at /pricing before you pay. Trials convert to paid unless canceled before the trial ends. You can cancel any time from Settings; access continues to the end of the paid period. If a charge was a genuine mistake, email us and we will be reasonable.
Fair use
Do not abuse the service: no scraping at scale, no reselling the coaching output as your own service, no attacking the infrastructure, no using the engine output to cheat in rated games on other platforms. We can suspend accounts that do these things.
Your content
Games you import remain your games. You give us the limited license needed to store and analyze them for you, which is the product. Aggregate, de-identified statistics (such as "how often players around 1200 miss knight forks") may inform product improvements and published research; nothing that identifies you is shared.
No warranties, sensible limits
Square One is provided as-is. We work hard on accuracy, and our coaching engine is verified against the board truth, but chess advice is advice: we do not guarantee rating gains, and our liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before it arose.
